I went back to one of my favorite places in the world Isla Mujeres.  It is a small island off the coast off Cancun.  There are day trips from Cancun.  If you ever have an opportunity to go to the island for a day trip from Cancun, I would suggest going.  It is a wonderful side of Mexico.  There are fewer tourists on the island.  There are no McDonald's or any other fast food joints.  They do have Senior Frog’s store that is new since I visited last Aug.

We stayed in an apartment this time, Sabina’s Eclipse Apartments.  It is located on the north end of the island in downtown.   It is near North Beach and restaurants, the location was great!  We had a small kitchen, sitting area, King sized bed, nice bathroom, and large balcony with a table and chairs and hammock.  We also had private use of the whole roof with views of the whole island.   The only downfall to the location near the clubs , the music was loud.  I didn't mind too much.  I did bring earplugs, but never really found when I needed them.  It was really nice to be able to fix our own breakfasts and lunches.  We usually only eat out once a day.

We spent a lot of time on North Beach at Sergio’s Playa Sol.  They have some really great waiters.  The chairs and umbrellas are free if you order food or drinks from the bar.  It is one of the best places to see the sun set.  We met some new fiends there also, Danyel, Donna and Mark to name a few.

One day we rented a golf cart with Danyel and Donna to explore the island.  Danyel took us to a beach club on the south end of the Island called Zama’s.  It was beautiful the also offered free chairs and umbrellas if you ordered from them.  The also have a beautiful pool.  It would be a wonderful place for a wedding.  We had a great time exploring, they were great fun and company!

We also ran into old friends.  Thomas was our waiter at the Corona Bar.  We met him on our first trip to the Isla back in 2000.  He is now working at a place called Chi Chi’s.  It was great to see him again.  His english has improved over the years.  He always asks about our family.  We had given him pictures of our family a few years ago and he said he still has them at his home, he treated us to a few drinks.

We always enjoy eating on Isla.  This time we tried a few new restaurants.  We tried ones that where located right on the waters edge that specialize in fresh fish.  We did go back to a few of our favorites Faynes and Jax’s.  We have never had a bad meal on the island.

We had an evening flight out of Cancun.  We were sitting on the right side of the plane and could see all the lights of the Isla as we left.  I am always a little sad when we leave, but it was a great trip and I look forward to going back!
