MAZATLAN JAN. 2007

My Husband and I just return from one of our favorite places in Mexico last week.  We stayed at Las Flores for our 6th time.  It always feels great to be recognized by both the hotel staff and our friends on the beach.

This time we stayed in a studio type room.  These rooms all are ocean front and have small kitchens.  The kitchen and bedroom area are blocked of by a wall.  The bedroom has 2 double beds and a sofa type bed.  Our family of four has stayed in these rooms and had plenty of space.  They also offer a one bedroom suite; the living and bed area are separate.  The hotel is older, but it is clean and they have made major improvements over the years, (swimming pool, whirlpool and updated all public areas).

The weather was on the cool side this trip.  We spent a lot of time in the bar area playing games and making new friends.  On the days that were nice, we could always be found on the beach.

One of the families that sell on the beach that we have know for many years offered to take us on a private tour of old Mazatlan.  Miguel picked us up on Sunday morning.  First thing we did was eat breakfast, he took us to a wonderful place downtown.  After that we drove by all the sights downtown, the cathedral, the zolcala, and the market.  One of the high lights was a tour of the Angela Peralta Opera House.  It was built around 1869.  It was in total disrepair for many years. In 1998 it was renovated.  It was beautiful.  Next stop was the marina.  Believe it or not I have been to Mazatlan 6 times and had never seen many of these things.  Then we drove up Icebox Hill, the view from here was wonderful.  I can’t thank Miguel enough for the wonderful day and taking time away from his selling.

Every time we in Mazatlan we buy fresh shrimp from the man on the beach.  He always delivers them and even takes the shells off for us.  We had a wonderful dinner of garlic shrimp and rice.  You can’t beat the shrimp!!

The last day was one of the coolest ones.  We again spent it in the bar playing games.  The wait staff and bartenders here are the best.  I don’t know if they knew it was our last day or not, but the surprised of with a big plate of shrimp.

Even if the weather could have been nicer, we still had a wonderful trip.

Mazatlan never disappoints us.
