New York City

My husband and I traveled to Brooklyn,NY to see our son June 19th to the 22nd.  It was a trip I never planned on taking, but when your son moves there you don’t have much of a choice.  There is one thing for sure, I am happy we did go.

We flew on Sun Country into JKF Airport early on the 19th.  Our son was there waiting for us.  The subway system is great!  We took one from the airport to Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Our 1st adventure was to walk across the Williamsburg Bridge.  My son and his roommate said it was the best way to see Manhattan for the first time.  We head off to Greenwich Village to see Washington Square, St. Marks Church, The Blackhound Bakery (my son works there).  We ate at Lombardi’s Pizza in the village.  It is suppose to be one of the 1st pizzerias in NYC.  We head south to the Staten Island Ferry.  It was wonderful to see the city and Miss Liberty from the water.  We watched as the sun set across the city the we headed back to Williamsburg.  That night we went to dinner at the Moto Café.  It is a great little Bohemian style restaurant that has roots back to the speakeasies of the 20’s.

On our next morning we took the subway into Manhattan.  We went to Grand Central Station, Central Park, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, and all the other sights in Mid-town.

Day three my son had to work, so my husband and I felt adventurous and took the subway back uptown to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  I don’t think you could see the whole place in one day.  We met our son back at his workplace then went south to Pier 17.  What a neat area, lots of shops and neat restaurants right on the water, with wonderful views of the Brooklyn Bridge.

We started walking north to Wall St. and St. Paul’s church.  We hopped on a subway and ended up in China Town.  We had a wonderful dinner at a Chinese restaurant.

On our last day we took the subway to Time Square.   What a busy place!  It was fun to see were all the TV Networks are located.  Then we head south back to Union Square Park and the village to have lunch.

We covered a lot of ground in the three and a half days we were in NYC.  My sore feet will testify to that.  I must admit I enjoy NYC and look forward to another trip to see all the things I missed.
